Freedom Skatepark is Jamaica’s first street skatepark, located in Bull Bay adjacent to the Bull Bay Football Club, approximately 8 miles outside of Kingston. This skatepark is free and open to the public everyday between 1PM-7PM—serving the community of Kingston and skaters across the country.
Inspired by the untimely and tragic death of Andre ‘Wildfiyah’ Thompson, a talented 20-year-old Jamaican skateboarder, the project honors his memory and his wish for accessible skating facilities in Jamaica. Andre was murdered in 2009, just days after being featured in the mini-documentary JA SKATE, produced by LargeUp, which showcased Jamaica’s vibrant skateboarding scene.
The mission of the Freedom Skate Park Foundation is to provide a high quality, well maintained, safe space to grow the sport of skateboarding in Jamaica, while empowering our youth. The hallmark program, the Edu-Skate program, designed by Concrete Jungle Foundation, teaches youth essential life skills through skateboarding. The park also features other programs and activities including a homework program, yoga, and conflict resolution classes.
